The Liberal team spoke with Vera Twomey to see how she and her young daughter Ava are doing now that Ava is receiving medicinal cannabis treatment in the Netherlands.
We also asked Vera about an opinion piece the Liberal posed recently as to the fact that we feel Vera should be interviewed by Ryan Tubridy on the Late Late Show about her family’s story.
Vera’s daughter Ava is receiving medicinial cannabis treatment in the Netherlands to control her severe form of epilepsy.
The Cork woman informed us that Ava is superb and improving everyday and that she feels that Ava’s situation and others like it deserve to be heard on the national broadcaster.
While Vera thanked The Liberal for their support along with TV3, who she said have been there from the start, and the an untold number of ordinary people from Ireland, England, Australia, Canada, USA Holland, Germany and beyond she stated that all she, and others in similar positions can do, is what they have already done. That is to respectfully contact the Late Late Show and RTE and ask if they would be interested in interviewing them.
It is bemusing to many why the Late Late Show, which has showcased so many human-interest stories just recently, would not have Vera Twomey as a guest as both Ava’s illness and her struggle have captured the hearts of the nation, and now because of the intransigence of this government an Irish family will remain torn apart at Christmas time.
It’s a good news story for now, but surely if this treatment works for little Ava – it’ll work for many more in Ireland too.
Ava’s birthday is this coming Sunday and tragically the family will be separated for it also.
Vera Twomey’s strength remains unshaken and has said that after Ava, the support she receives from so many, is greatest blessing in her life.
