It’s been announced that Facebook will start to alert Irish users’ when a child goes missing in Ireland and gardai believe the child is legitmately in danger.

It’s understood that Facebook are working with An Garda Siochana to get their system right with an alert that should go live instantly showing a description of the child.

The description will include their age, height, what they were wearing, eyes and hair colour.

It’s understood that the system requires the child to be under 18, likely to have been abducted, in serious danger and have enough information for the public to get a good description of the child so they can help.

People will be able to share the alert with their friends.
