Meath County Council have granted planning permission to Facebook for them to build their new €200 million data centre in Clonee.

It is believed that the world’s biggest social networking website will build their new data centre campus in two phases over the next ten years. It is understood that Facebook have submitted proposals that will see the new campus being built on a 220-acre site making it on of the largest corporate buildings in the country. Both Facebook and Meath County Council say a large number of jobs will be created in the construction sector during the build.

The news was greatly welcomed by Meath County Council Chairman Brian Fitzgerald who said it was “the best news story that I have seen in Co Meath in relation to industrial development in my 30 years on the council”. Mr Fitzgerald also said he hopes the project will promote the county as an employment base and encourage other Foreign Direct Investment.
