Facebook to launch new suicide prevention tools ahead of World Suicide Prevention Day

The worlds biggest social media website Facebook has revealed they are about to launch a series of suicide prevention tools ahead of World Suicide Prevention Day next weekend.

Facebook which has over 1 billion users worldwide has teamed up with support service Samaritans to develop a range of supports for people who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts.

The company say they hope the new tools available will help users flag concerning posts from friends or family who may be indicative of suicidal emotions or tendencies.

Facebook also say any disturbing post is monitored by annalists’at the company who can contact the relevant individual with help options and resources developed in association with Samaritans.

The person who tags the troubling content will also be encouraged to call or message their distressed friend, or to reach out to others who might be able to provide adequate support.
