The FIFA World Cup has come and gone and the next installment won’t be until 2022, but the beautiful game could one day be held on Irish shores as the FAI have confirmed they are considering joining the English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish FA’s in a bid to host the 2030 tournament.

Although the 2030 tournament is just under 12 years away, talks between the so called home nations and the FAI have already begun in the hope that the biggest sporting event on the planet will be held on the Irish and British isles.

The news of the FAI’s involvement in the discussions was confirmed via a statement on their website late on Wednesday evening.

In the statement the Football Association of Ireland said the following: “Following recent positive discussions amongst all parties it has been agreed that the Football Association of Ireland will join the English, Irish, Welsh and Scottish FAs in conducting a feasibility review into a potential joint bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.”

It is thought that all the football associations involved in a potential bid have begun talks after former FIFA President Sepp Blatter suggested that the 2030 tournament could be held between Britain and Ireland in twelve years time.

Although many fans of the game have previously stated that the English FA could easily host the tournament on their own, it is thought that they might have to explore the possibility of joint venture given that the tournament will be expanded from the 2026 tournament which will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
