Fair play: Cherry Orchard FC donates and delivers presents to sick children in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital

It’s a gesture that was led by Ross Murray, Deko Hevey, Cormac Byrne, Shane Connelly and Anto Shortt whilst supported by Lisa Smith (Generational Expert)

When asked, Lisa explains “I was asked to participate in this great cause by Ross Murray a few weeks back, and to be honest I was delighted to get involved. I have to give all credit to the Management and the Committee of Cherry Orchard Fc. When I asked Ross why they wanted to do this charitable gesture. It was very clear from the start many people in this club have first-hand understood the pain of losing a loved one, For Ross himself he wanted to make sure the kids in the heart ward where visited. We visited the Cancer and Heart Wards.
Explaining: This time of the year can be the hardest time for those families whose children will not being coming home for Christmas”
Cherry Orchard Fc Crumlin started this fundraising over a 2- week period, with teams such as Intermediate, Leinster Senior, Senior Sunday, Leinster Senior and League Major Saturday all getting involved.

Lisa also goes on to explain:
“This isn’t a league of Ireland team, these players don’t get paid, so to hear every player got involved was really heart-warming. This proves in today’s society we don’t take things for granted. Every donation big or small was counted and to see a community like Cherry Orchard Crumlin come together like this it’s a credit to the club and their players. This may not be the biggest donation ever done, but the passion and reasoning behind these players wanting to do this is more valuable. To mention Anto Shortt who is here today broke a bone in his lower back a couple of weeks but wanted to visit the heart ward as that meant an awful lot to him. To shows you how much this club and community really want to be here today. They made sure every child was greeted with a balloon and a present. They chatted with each patient and even got lessons on all the different types of airplanes. These kids have more strength then most people. These families come here daily and to see them all smile, we hope they understand they have support across this strong community. I have been empowered by this kind act today.”
