Fatal Collision on M1: Diversions in Place

Diversions are in place after a fatal 3-car collision on the M1 last night.

The crash occurred Sunday night around 10.30pm in the Castlebellingham area in Co. Louth and resulted in the death of a male driver in his 40’s. Initial reports state that the male driver may have been driving Southbound on the Northbound carriageway.

A female driver from a second car who was also in her 40’s was rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda with multiple fractures, however she is reported to be in a stable condition. A mother and her 11 year old daughter who were in the third car were also rushed to hospital, but are reported to be uninjured.

Diversions are in place on the motorway as Garda forensic collision investigators are carrying out a technical examination of the crash site and collecting evidence.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses who were on the M1 Northbound last night around the time of the crash to come forward and contact Ardee Garda Station on (041) 685 3222 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
