A man who left a woman needing life-saving surgery when he cut an artery in her arm with a blade has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison.
The man in question 40-year-old father of four John McMahon with an address of Cushlawn Drive in Tallaght in Dublin had pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to assaulting the victim Christina Joyce outside a methadone clinic in the city centre on December 1st, 2012.
Judge Martin Nolan told the court that the attack was extremely vicious and that Ms Joyce needed an emergency procedure to save her life. It is also believed that the victim was also left with serious scars on her face, hand and arm and she cannot afford plastic surgery.
However Judge Nolan backdated the imposed sentenced to when Mr McMahon was first remanded in custody in December 2012.
