Feel safe yet? Gardai carry out a mock terrorist attack to practice for the real thing

Gardai carried out quite a substantial mock terrorist attack in Dublin last evening to practice what they’d do if, God forbid, a terrorist attack happened here.

The gardai heavies were drafted in for this including the garda ERU (emergency response unit).

They made it appear like a van smashed into 3 people on the street, then the occupants of the van jumped out and stabbed the unfortunate people who’d already been knocked over.

They then followed the “terrorists” into a building where they eventually disarmed them and dealt with the situation.

The exercise was also to test how long it’d take emergency crews to get to the scene if the unthinkable happened.

One can be cynical and say that the test on how long it’d take them to arrive is erroneous as they have no idea what area of a city or town such an attack could take place in.

The inside exercise was more worthwhile as it showed what they could do when they arrived on the scene.

It’s understood that the EU now want to include Ireland in all terrorism attacks text alerts should one happen in Ireland.
