Fianna Fáil’s Spokesperson for Finance Michael McGrath has today said that the Government should not introduce any kind of water charges until the national waterworks network is up to a proper standard.

He added that now it’s the time to invest in the network and deal with issues like waste water disposal, before the people are forced to pay any charges.

‘Water supply is not to a proper standard in this country,’ Deputy McGrath said.

The Economic Management Council (that is the Taoiseach, Tanaiste, Minister for Public Expenditure, and Minister for Finance) is due to meet today to discuss a revised water package. Full details on the decisions made will be revealed next week.
