Gardai in Swords Co Dublin have said that a field is being currently preserved following the discovery of a skull in a ditch.
It is understood that the discovery was made at approximately 4pm yesterday afternoon by workmen operating a JCB involved in ground clearance.
The State Pathologist will apparently visit the area this morning to conduct a preliminary examination of the scene to determine whether the skull is that of a human and if it is historic or more recent.
Gardai say the skull was found in a large field beside the Waterside Estate and Bennettstown Ravensdale farm off the Swords road.
