England’s FIFA World Cup dream has is still alive after they beat Colombia 4-3 on penalties this evening.

The dream of a first World Cup since 1966 is still alive after Gareth Southgate’s men managed to make their way to the last eight thanks to a save by Jordan Pickford in a tense penalty shootout.

England who will be more than happy to get through via spot kicks could have made it through in the 90 minutes, but not for a late equaliser by Mina to force extra time.

Colombia who were relatively poor through out the game and racked up a number of yellow cards from persisting fouling, found themselves behind after Harry Kane was hauled down in the box which gave England a penalty on the 57th minute.

That man Kane who equaled Gary Lineker’s England record of six goals in a World Cup tournament slotted home from the spot.

England who probably should have put the game to bed in the second half were punished in injury time when Mina nodded home from a Colombian corner.

Extra time seen both sides push hard for a winner, but both sides were still level after the extra 30 minutes.

England who missed a penalty of their own via Henderson on the shootout, were left fearing the worst, but Uribe hit the bar to give Colombia the advantage.

However England held their nerve and were rewarded when Pickford saved from Bacca, before Eric Dier smashed home the final spot kick to put his side through to quarter finals.

England will now gone to face Sweden on Saturday with a place semi finals up for grabs.
