Fight Cancer Together: Irish Cancer Society calls on more people to support Daffodil Day so that vital research can continue to cure the disease

The Irish Cancer Society has called on the public to support Daffodil Day more than ever this year, because the number of cancer cases are increasing.

The latest call from the cancer society comes after latest statistics suggest that one in three of people in Ireland will experience the illness in our lifetime. The society say the support that Daffodil Day has received over the past 20 years, has raised over €63m, which has provided scientists with the much needed resources to make major breakthroughs.

Dr Robert O’Connor, head of research with the Irish Cancer Society, has called for more people to support Daffodil Day so that vital research to find a cure can continue, Mr O’Connor said: “ A lot of our research is engaged with new diagnostics and new treatments, but we are growing our portfolio to better support the needs in terms of newer approaches in prevention, helping support early detection and understanding why people don’t make use of existing screening programmes.

“Developing ways to help people after treatment, helping people overcome some of the really serious symptoms like fatigue.”
