Egyptian security forces have killed over 40 suspected terrorists in response to a terror attack at the Giza Pyramids that killed four people.

The attack came on Saturday when a roadside bomb hit a bus carrying tourists to the Giza plateau. Three Vietnamese tourists and an Egyptian tour guide died and almost a dozen more people were injured.

In response the Egyptian military targeted three terrorist hideouts in the Sinai Peninsula where it is believed terrorists linked to the Islamic State were planning more attacks on foreigners over the Christmas period.

Egypt has had a continuous problem with Islamists terrorists operating in the sparsely populated Sinai region who primarily target the country’s Christian minority but also occasionally tourists.

The worst such attack coming in October 2015 when a Russian airliner leaving the Sham Al-Sheik resort was destroyed by a bomb killing all 217 people on board.
