Fighting talk: Arlene Foster says Leo Varadkar’s Brexit comments “are not helpful”

Arguably one of the most powerful women in British/Irish politics today, the leader of the DUP Arlene Foster responded to comments made by Leo Varadkar about Brexit

Speaking after an event at the former Maze Prison outside Lisburn today, the DUP leader responded to comments made by Varadkar who said that he remained “hopeful” that Brexit would never happen.

Mrs Foster said that the Taoiseach’s  comments were “disrespecting” the wishes of the British people and that they going against what they voted for.

Mrs Foster said:
“He may be hopeful but that is disrespecting the will of the British people. Brexit is going to happen. We are leaving the European Union.

“I just hope the Republic of Ireland will continue to work constructively with us in Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK because it is very much in their interest to have a Brexit that works for them as well as a Brexit that works for the UK,” she concluded.
