The race to become the new leader of the Fine Gael is all but down to two candidates after the current Minister for Health Simon Harris officially ruled himself out of running to take over from Enda Kenny.
Mr Harris who was one of a number of candidates confirmed earlier today that he has no intention of taking the reign’s should Mr Kenny step aside later this month.
Mr Harris said although he was flattered by the talk linking him to the position, he said that he was fully focused on his current role and that he had a lot of work to do as the minister for health.
Although he would consider leading the party in the future Mr Harris said he fully believes the party will be left in capable hands this time around.
