Fine increase: Motorists caught illegally parking in disabled spaces to recieve a €150 fine

Motorists found guilty of parking in a disabled space without a permit will now face a charge of €150.

In a move to cut out thoughtless behaviour, the Minister for Transport Shane Ross said the charge is being increased to cutout the selfishness of certain motorists.

Mr Ross who confirmed that the increase which was implemented on March 1st, said the thoughtless of certain motorists is unacceptable as they willingly take the a space that has been reserved for somone who truly needs it.

He added he hoped the increase will encourage people to think twice before taking a disabled parking space.

The new increase will now see those found guilty of such an offence paying €70 more as the fine used to cost €80.

However those found guilty could end up paying €225 if they fail to pay the fine within 28 days.
