The six-year-old boy froze after climbing 50ft (15m) up the tree in Duplin County, North Carolina. His parents called Faison Fire and Rescue, who used a cherry picker to rescue the child.

When back on solid ground, the boy was asked by firefighters why he climbed so dangerously high up the tree. He explained that he just felt like climbing.

Rescue fire chief Rodney Lambert took to the Faison Fire & Rescue Facebook page after the incident to say:

“Proud of our crew who responded to this call this afternoon. Not your everyday call. Great thinking outside of the box to bring everyone down safe. Thanks to Mt. Olive F.D. and everyone else who assisted. Makes my job as Chief easy to have a group who can handle anything.

Chief Lambert”
