The HSE has confirmed that 55 people have died of flu-related causes so far in Ireland since the beginning of the so-called ‘flu season’.
In total, just shy of 1,800 have been admitted to hospital with the hospital trolley crisis at record levels of more than 600 people languishing around the country.
It’s understood that some people are waiting on trolleys for some 24 hours before being admitted and getting a bed on a ward.
According to the HSE, the flu season will last until the start of April.
