Former Aer Lingus employee receives four years in prison for aiding illegal immigrants




A former Aer Lingus employee Peter Kernan (57) has been jailed for four years for his role in smuggling illegal migrants into Ireland.

Kernan pleaded guilty to four counts of facilitating the entry of illegal migrants into the country and three counts of handling the proceeds of crime. Kernan is known to have laundered over €40,000 in payment for the human trafficking.

Kernan’s partner in crime Frederick Cham (63) was convicted of aiding the facilitating the entry of illegal migrants last month and likewise received a four years prison sentence.

An investigation by Garda National Immigration Bureau how the two men had managed to bring illegal migrants into the country by helping them avoid immigration checks at Dublin airport.

The presiding Judge Martin Nolan remarked that human trafficking was an extremely serious and lucrative crime.
