Freddie Scappaticci, an alleged British spy who is claimed to have infiltrated the Provisional IRA and worked undercover for British intelligence for decades has been arrested by detectives investigated murder, torture and kidnapping.

Also said to be known as “Stakeknife” Scappaticci (72) is alleged to be a former leading member of the dreaded ‘Internal Security Unit’ of the Provisional IRA’s Northern Command, which was ironically charged with detecting and dealing with spies and informs within the IRA’s ranks.

Scappaticci has always strenuously denied being an informer or having any links to British intelligence or security services in Northern Ireland and claims his involvement in the IRA ended in 1990.

However, PSNI detectives conduction an investigation into unsolved murders and kidnappings during the Troubles dubbed “Operation Kenova” are said to questioning the alleged British spy in relation to dozens of counts of torture, kidnap and up to 18 murders.
