The 36-year-old footballer has today announced his retirement.
Ferdinand spent the last season at QPR, who were relegated from the Barclays Premier League.
He told BT Sport that it was time to end his career.
Ferdinand said “This season I really found out that it was time to hang the boots up and get back in the house and watch other people play the game.”
The footballer’s wife, Rebecca Ellison, sadly passed away on May 1 after battling cancer.
