Former postman and the country’s most famous amateur weather forecaster Michael Gallagher says there will be no white Christmas this year

He may have just retried from hs long serving career at An Post but Michael Gallagher has not given up on giving his annual winter predictions

The Donegal native and the country’s most famous amateur weatherman Gallagher has given his prediction recently on wether or not we will have a white Christmas this year, with the answer being a resounding no. The former postman’s prediction should be sen as a certainty as he has accurately predicted the seasons for a number of decades using the behaviour of plants and animals and the folklore of older generations in the hills of Donegal.

Michael, from Glenfin, has said he does not hold hope for those wishing for a perfect white Christmas, saying it is highly unlikely, Michael told reporters: “Of all the years I have said there is a chance of a white Christmas, I would certainly say that this is NOT one of them. I just can’t see it.”

Meanwhile Michael also dismissed the notion that the country is set for a very severe winter, saying: “I would actually say we’re going to have a fairly normal winter with little storms and very little snow. A lot of rain I would think but nothing out of the ordinary. “There are very few series on the trees. If the trees and bushes are laden with berries then it is usually nature’s way of helping birds to stock of up for a harsh winter ahead.

The former postal worker added: “We didn’t have a great summer and generally when we do not have a greats summer and that is followed by a mild autumn like the one we’ve had, we general escape with a mild enough winter.”
