The former taoiseach and Fine Gael leader Liam Cosgrave has sadly died at the age of 97.
Mr Cosgrave was first elected to the Dáil in 1943 as a Fine Gael TD for Dublin County and went on to serve as parliamentary secretary to Taoiseach John A Costello.
Born in 1920, Mr Cosgrave was elected party leader in 1965 and became Taoiseach eight years later on 14 March 1973, becoming the head of the Fine Gael/Labour National Coalition.
He is survived by his children, Mary, Liam and Ciaran.
His wife Vera sadly passed away last year aged 90.
