Foster criticised after claiming there was never a hard border in Ireland

The DUP leader Arlene Foster has been heavily criticised after she claimed there was never a hard border on the island of Ireland.

Ms Foster who was speaking at an event in London ahead of the crucial Brexit vote, said that she found it upsetting that the Prime Minister was talking about borders of the past.

Although Foster claimed there was a border of sorts implemented back in the troubles, she said it was more for security reasons rather than a hard border.

The DUP leader who opposes the backstop agreement, also claimed that the border didn’t do much as terrorists were able to get through at ease.

Foster added that she believes there is no need for a backstop agreement and technology would be the best solution as it would enable free movement between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
