Four American tourists were rushed to hospital after a woman sprayed a corrosive substance on them at the Gare de Marseille-Saint-Charles train station earlier today.
The attacker, a 41-year-old woman later deemed to be suffering deep psychological trauma, used an over-the-counter cleaning product containing hydrocloric acid to spray the tourist group. The woman appeared to target them at random as they were about to board a train.
Two of the victims suffered burns to their faces and legs, and had to be hospitalised. The other two were also taken to hospital and treated for shock.
The incident is not being treated as terror-related.
The attacker was arrested at the scene and taken into custody.
