French police forced to use pepper spray after English thugs attack Irish fans last night in Lyon

French police were forced to take drastic measures last night after a bunch of English thugs decided to round up on Irish fans in Lyon.

Irish fans were singing and dancing in the city centre when a gang of English descended upon the Irish revelers. England are playing Iceland in Nice on Monday and many English fans are staying in Lyon where Ireland take on France tomorrow afternoon.

A gang of English tackled Irish fans outside a fast food joint in the city on Friday night. They started singing and chanting anti-IRA songs at the Irish with alledegedly fisty cuffs taking place after 3 English thugs started swinging at Irish fans who laughed and sang back.

Peter McGovern told The Liberal:
“Firstly, not all the English were involved at all. It was literally a handful of thugs who came after us. They started slagging us initially over the IRA but then one of our lads jeered back and 3 of them went for him. It got messy for a minute but the Irish lads broke it up. That’s when the French police took over.”

The French police ran around the Irish crowd and rounded up the English thugs where an altercation took place and the police were forced to take out the pepper spray and use it on the English fans.

The whole incident was over within a matter of minutes but a French police spokesperson said it was certainly not the Irish fans’ fault.
