Further strike action on the horizon at Iarnrod Eireann following a disagreement over mentoring duties

There could be yet again further industrial action at Iarnród Éireann in the coming weeks ahead, after union representatives issue calls to ballot for an all out strike.

It is understood the calls come after locomotive and DART drivers voices their disapproval at the company over plans that will see them become instructors to new recruits.

Although any prospect of strike action has to be confirmed by union chiefs, it is thought drivers have become unhappy at the company’s insistence to make them undertake the mandatory role.

The dispute apparently comes after Iarnród Éireann included the roles as part of the recent pay increase that was handed out today staff before Christmas, however drivers at the company say they did not agree to the terms and therefore they feel the company is enfocing the role despite their concerns.
