Blackrock National Hurling Club plans to conmemorate the events of Easter Week 1916 with a unique festival that will include music, exhibitions, talks and two very special matches in the style of a century ago.

The Cork based hurling club expects to highlight the role of GAA players who participated or had lins to The Rising. The demonstration matches were inspired by the game played on the Cork Athletic Grounds on Easter Sunday 1916, in which The Rookies beat the Barrs 6-5 to 1-3.

The hurleys used will be reshaped to fashion those from the last century, the players will wear uniformes styled to the era, and the 1916 rules will be observed. In an statement from the club it reads: “An Oíche Cheoil agus Chéilí” will be held on Saturday night at the club with top class guest musicians, singers and set dancers who will perform pieces from the period. Attendees will be encouraged to dress in period styles to compliment the music and dance customs of the era. A proper hooley is expected to break out!”

The festival will begin on Thursday, March 10th, and the game will be on Sunday, March 13th (camogie clash at 2:30pm and hurling game at 4:30pm) at the Blackrock National Hurling Club.pm for the hurling match.
