A Garda officer has been hailed a hero after he successfully managed to rescue two homeless people from a burning building in Kilkenny City on Wednesday.
It is understood the homeless couple were rescued when the Garda officer entered the building to check to see if there was anybody inside.
The heroic Garda managed to get the man and the woman to safety as the three storey building on John Street went up in flames.
Meanwhile Gardaí have confirmed that two men aged in their 20s have been arrested in connection with the fire at the landmark building.
