It has been confirmed that Sgt Maurice McCabe will retire from the An Garda Síochána.
According to RTÉ News, Sgt McCabe will effectively end his 30 year career following a meeting with the Assistant Garda Commissioner Fintan Fanning this past weekend.
RTÉ News say Sgt McCabe who has been on leave from the force for over two and a half years, handed in his retirement notice to the Garda Commissioner Drew Harris.
It is believed that Mr Harris has accepted his request and he will affectively leave the force this week.
Sgt McCabe’s retirement comes after state issued him an apology following the treatment he and his family received over the past 10 years in regards to the whistleblower controversy.
