The Garda Ombudsman will investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a young man while in Garda custody today.
A man in his twenties had been arrested in the early hours of this morning and brought to Ballymun Garda station. Shortly afterwards, a doctor was called as he appeared unwell. The man was released, but became sicker while still at the station. He was rushed to hospital, but was pronounced dead at 4:30am.
The incident has been referred to the Garda Ombudsman for an independent investigation.
