Gardai have confirmed that a number of plain clothes officers will be placed in the crowd at next month’s U2 concert at Croke Park.
The news of the deployment of the extra gardai comes in the wake of the recent terroist attacks to hit Manchester and London in the previous month.
Speaking about the operation a Garda spokesman said a number of plain clothed ‘spotters’ will be placed on duty at the concert which is expected to see 80,000 people attend on July 22nd.
It is understood the deployment of the undercover officers could also happen at other major events including the All Ireland finals this coming September.
Although Gardai believe any attack is highly unlikely they say the deployment of extra officers is necessary and will more than likely become the part of the norm around the globe in the wake of tragic recent events.
The move should come to as no surprise to concert goers especially given that security efforts were majorly heightened at the recent Guns n Roses Slane Castle concert last month.
