Gardaí in Co Kildare conducting a major search for the remains of man whose torso was found in Kildare’s Grand Canal over the weekend

Gardaí in Co Kildare have confirmed they are currently conducting a major search for the head and limbs of a man whose torso was discovered in a suitcase in Kildare’s Grand Canal over the weekend.

Gardai say they believe the unidentified victim horrifically died no earlier than last Thursday and that they are desperately are trying to find the rest of his remains and potential murder scene. They also say the victim was most likely tortured before his death, and his remains were dismembered by a chainsaw or angle grinder.

The mans remains where tragically discovered in a suitcase in the Grand Canal near Celbridge, Co Kildare on Saturday afternoon at approximately 3:30pm by passers-by who where walking along the popular canal side pathway. Meanwhile Superintendent Gerry Wall, of Leixlip Garda station, told reporters: “When we attended at the scene we found that the suitcase contained a torso. “From there we commenced a full murder investigation.”

Supt Wall added: “From the early evidence and investigation we’re satisfied that this is a recent event.” “I’m clarifying that – that it’s a recent event as far as we’re concerned in this investigation.”
