Gardai launch a murder investigation following the death of a man in Co Cork

Gardaí in Ballincollig, Co Cork, have launched a murder investigation following the death of a man aged in his 30s over the weekend.

It is understood the investigation comes after man who has since been named as 35-year-old Mikolaj Wilk, died following an attack it his home in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Mr Wilk’s partner Elzbieta, also aged in her early 30s, was seriously injured in the attack, which occurred at approximately 3am on Sunday morning.

Gardaí say four men entered the couple’s home in the Maglin area and attacked the couple.

Both Mikolaj and Elzbieta were taken to Cork University Hospital, but sadly Mikolaj was pronounced dead shortly after 5:30am.

Officers investigating the incident say they are currently searching for the men behind the attack.

They say the group fled the scene in a car, believed to be a BMW Three Series, which was later found burnt out at Inniskenny in Waterfall.

The couple’s home currently remains sealed off in order for a forensic examination to take place.
