Gardaí and Revenue and Customs officials in Co Cork have confirmed that a total of 36,500 cigarettes have been seized following a search at a premises on Tuesday.
The discovery was made when Gardaí searched a premises in Mallow, on Tuesday afternoon.
It is understood the cigarettes came from the UK and were marked on a manifest as ‘advertising products’.
Gardaí say a Polish national was questioned in relation to the seizure and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
It is believed the cigarettes were worth around €21,900, and would have represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of €17,300 if they had been sold.
