Gardaí suspect elderly woman found dead at her Limerick home may have been the victim of a home burglary




Gardaí in Limerick City are treating the death of an elderly woman over the weekend as suspicious.

According to The Irish Mirror newspaper Gardai are treating the death of 78 year-old Rose Hanrahan who was found dead in her home on Friday, as an murder investigation after evidence suggested there may have been foul play. 

It is believed the murder investigation was launched after Gardai carried out an extensive forensic examination at Mrs Hanrahan property in New Road, Thomondgate, Limerick. 

Gardai say they the pensioner who was found dead by a relative on Friday afternoon was the victim a home burglary after evidence discovered signs of a forced entry at the house. 

They also say they are trying to determine whether or not Mrs Hanrahan was strangled by her attacker.
