German travel writer on assignment in Ireland has all his equipment stolen

Dirk Heckmann, a travel writer sent to Ireland to write a piece about the Wild Atlantic Way as a prime caravan and motorhome destination, had the misfortune of having all his equipment stolen while working here.

Mr. Heckmann and his wife had been traveling along the west coast of Ireland for the past few weeks, all along taking photos and notes for an upcoming travel guide. The trip had been sponsored by Fáilte Ireland.

All was well until he parked his own campervan in Dublin’s Phoenix Park. He went out to the city to take some more photographs, and returned to Phoenix Park to find his vehicle broken into and all his gear gone. In total, he lost about €20,000 worth of equipment, including the hard drives where all the photographs he had taken over the last few weeks were stored.

Mr. Heckmann, who is now unlikely to write a very favorable piece, has called on the thieves to at least return the hard drives, as all his photographic work is there.
