Get organised if you take the train – Proposed rail strikes this Friday will go ahead as planned

It has been confirmed that the scheduled train strike this Friday will go ahead unless there is a drastic u-turn in discussions regarding pay for past productivity improvements.

The news was confirmed by the General Secretary of the National Bus and Rail Union recently, who has said it is highly likely that a planned strike by NBRU and SIPTU drivers at Iarnród Éireann this Friday will go ahead as planned. General Secretary Dermot O’Leary believes the only way to avoid the proposed strikes, planned to take place between the hours of 6am to 9am, is for the company to sit down with union members and discuss the issue.

The planned strikes will cause further disruption, as it was recently revealed that 40,000 passengers were affected by the previous strike which was held on 23rd October. Mr O’Leary told RTE there were no proposals to put to workers at this present time. “I suppose at this stage we’re at Tuesday morning now and we’re heading into a second dispute on Friday into a place where no worker wants to be unfortunately. “Certainly it’s going to discommode the travelling public but unfortunately, I suppose, the only way we’re going to avoid that is for the company to sit down around the table and discuss the issues that to date they have not been discussing.”
