The day of reckoning is nigh.
From tomorrow on, the first water bills will start sliding inconspicuously through letterboxes across the country. What you do with the bill, well, that’s up to you.
The new charging scheme, as part of the Government’s climbdown due to public backlash, started on 1 January. Bills will be sent out between April and June.
Irish Water have stated that they expect ‘challenges’ as billing begins. A troupe of some 750 customer service staff working from a Cork call centre will deal with the likely firestorm of queries and downright abuse they are likely to get over the phone in the coming months.
The company admitted last month that hundreds of thousands of bills are likely to be wrong.
