Get up early this morning and see a super red moon over Ireland from 4:41am

Go to bed and get up early, extra early this morning!

In the early hours of this morning, a ‘blood moon’ will be visible over the whole of Ireland.

The red moon will be visible for 62 minutes, from 4:41 AM to 5:53 AM. This will be the last chance to see a red moon from Ireland until 2032.

This will be first time such a lunar event will seen for Ireland in 14 years and Astronomy Ireland has urged people to make the most of it.

The Full Moon this morning will appear with an eerily red colouration as the Earth passes between it and the Sun. As the Sun’s rays pass through the planets atmosphere they taken on a red tint, this is also the effect that causes sun-sets and rises to appear red.

The moon this morning will also be what’s called a ‘super-moon’ which is when the satellite will be at its perigee, the point its orbit at which it is closest to the Earth.

So get up nice and early and get a glimpse at this red super moon!
