Going nowhere: Enda Kenny said to be thrilled at UK election and Brexit which both extend his tenure as Taoiseach

Enda Kenny is said to be thrilled at the prospect of an unexpected extension to his tenure as Taoiseach.

The UK general election and the Brexit are said to see Kenny stay in office way past summer 2017. The uncertainty of our neighbour’s political system will keep Kenny in office for now.

Insiders in both the Varadkar and Coveney camps are said to be demoralised because the longer it goes on, the more uncertain either of their candidates becomes.

It is possible that a complete outsider such as 30-yr-old Minister for Heath Simon Harris could still steal their thunder.

One thing is for sure, as a Fine Gael insider said; “for now, Kenny is going nowhere”.
