The Director General of the HSE Tony O’Brien has once again refuted calls to step down from his position in wake of the recent CervicalCheck scandal.

Mr O’Brien’s future was once again called into question on Wednesday as he appeared before an Oireachtas Committee on Finance.

In what was another day of questioning, Mr O’Brien refused to step down from his role early despite calls from Fianna Fail’s health spokesperson Stephen Donnelly.

Mr O’Brien told the committee that he rejects Mr Donnelly’s call to step down from his position as he would like to continue in his in role in order to address the issues of concern.

The director general’s remarks came after Mr Donnelly informed him that it would be in the best interest that he immediately left his position.
