Good news for parents as the Government confirm an extra 5,000 childcare places will be made available from September at a cost of €4m




There was good news for parents of young children today as the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar announced that more than 5,000 new childcare places will be created this September.

The news which will be welcomed by parents seeking childcare services nationwide comes after the Government confirmed that it is putting an extra €4m in funding into the childcare scheme that assists those who wish to place their child into daycare whilst they return to work or back to education. 

Announcing the additional places Mr Varadkar said that from next month parents of over 70,000 children across the country will be able to register for a range of childcare services which will assist them as they return to full time employment or back to education.

The Taoiseach also confirmed that parents will be able to receive a maximum of €1,040 per year, that will go towards costs of placing children aged six months to three years into daycare.

Mr Varadkar also confirmed that an extra means tested support of up to €145 per week will be provided to parents on lower incomes who also wish to place their child in daycare.
