There could be good news for tenants across the country later this year as the Minister for Housing Simon Coveney revealed this evening that rent caps could be introduced in 15 areas.
The potential move could come after the new scheme was introduced into Dublin and Cork before Christmas. Mr Coveney has said the scheme could be implemented further once data is collected regarding their eligibility.
It is understood that under the new rules rent price for existing tenants cannot be increased by more than 4% in a year.
Speaking earlier Mr Coveney said: “Data is already starting to come through that in my view will mean we will be able to look at at least 15 new local electoral areas.
“We will get assessments done of those areas quickly so we can create new designations around rent-pressure zones as quickly as we can.”
