Good news for the mental health sector as Government decides to reverse €12m funding cuts after adding an additional €450 million to the Department of Health’s annual budget.

There was some good news for mental health organisations as the Department of Health have revealed the proposed €12m cuts to the sector will be reversed.

The news comes after it was announced the Government will provide an additional €450 million to the department of health’s annual budget.

It is believed the extra funding is being provided in order to avoid another overspend at the end of this year. The news of the reversal of cuts to the mental health sector will be welcomed by many advocacy groups who were outraged earlier this year after former health minister Leo Varadkar announced that the funding would be used elsewhere.

The additional funding will also be used to introduce a winter initiative which we deal with hospital overcrowding. Meanwhile additional funds will be provided to help lift restrictions on accessing home help services.
