Goodbye Enda: Coveney reveals Fine Gael leadership is likely to change hands in the summer

The Minister for Housing Simon Coveney has said he fully expects to see the Fine Gael leadership to change hands in the summer.

Speaking earlier today Mr Coveney responded to recent rumours that suggested the current Taoiseach Enda Kenny will stepdown later this month.

However Mr Coveney has dismissed those rumours saying the Taoiseach has no intention in stepping down until the UK’s current Brexit negotiations are finalised in May.

Mr Coveney said: “We are going to see a process put in place by the Taoiseach to facilitate a leadership change in the party.”

“That’s not going to happen this side of the EU leaders meeting to finalise their mandate in terms of the Brexit negotiations and I think Enda has been very clear on that.”

“People just need to be patient here. I expect there will be a leadership change before the summer but it’s certainly not going to happen in the month of April.”
