There was some good news for workers across the country as the Government have confirmed that the national minimum wage will be increased this coming January.

In recommendations issued in a report by the Low Pay Commission, employees across the country will receive a minimum of €9.80 per hour.

The latest increase will now see employees receive an extra 25c an hour with the current minimum wage being €9.55 per hour.

It is understood the recommendations were overwhelmingly accepted by Cabinet ministers at a meeting at Derrynane House in Co Kerry on Wednesday.

Speaking about the increase, the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said the increase will put Ireland’s national minimum wage amongst the top five in Europe in terms of highest minimum wage payments.
