The Government have said they aim to implement a new scheme that will see the state paying 30% of rent prices in major cities for young and upcoming professionals.
The new scheme will see young qualified workers having their rent supplemented so they can live closer to work. The government say they have set aside €10m for this year in order to fund a pilot project that would see young employees not being unfairly charged for rent in major cities. However it was also revealed that scheme will not be open to those currently on social housing waiting lists.
The coalition say the new scheme was agreed at the last Cabinet meeting before the dissolving of the Dáil, and will only apply to developments where at least five units are made available. It is understood that in order to qualify for the scheme an individuals income level must be assessed by the Housing Agency.
