Under new proposals said to be about to be put forward by the Government, every household would receive €100 off their water bill, irrespective of the bill’s amount.
A social welfare payment of €100 would now be only available to welfare recipients once their bill has been paid.
The Government is under increasing pressure over the upcoming water charges. Over 100 protests and other events are scheduled for the next few days.
Growing popular opposition against these charges are slowly but surely pushing the coalition government against the ropes, and these latest proposed measures appear to show the Government’s desperate attempts to appease the masses.
